Meta is taking another big step in VR with its new Meta VR Glasses, expected to launch in spring 2027. One of the most impressive features is the weight: the glasses are only around 100 grams and are built from lightweight magnesium alloy.
The idea is to turn the glasses into much more than a VR gaming device. You could transform your living room into a private cinema, watch live sports on a huge virtual screen, play VR games without controllers, or create a flexible virtual workspace with multiple screens.
The glasses are designed for a cinematic experience, with support for 3D movies, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Meta also says more than 75 hand-tracked VR games will be available from day one.
Much of the hardware is moved into a small separate device, called a puck, which can fit in your pocket. This helps keep the glasses remarkably light.
The expected price is around $1,300, with a planned launch in spring 2027.
VR is slowly moving beyond bulky headsets toward something much more portable. 100 grams, a giant virtual screen and an entire digital workspace — right in front of your eyes. Read more
